Hello!

Its now the morning of hand in day and I  thought that before I print my blog I should  mention how much I have enjoyed this last semester at Uni, I feel I have finally found my own style and identity and I am looking forward to creating many more collections in the future when I leave Uni and venture into the real world of design.... :)

hello!

It is now the evening before hand in day and  I am busy finishing everything ready for assessment. This will be the last time I blog before my blog pages are printed tomorrow . Today I have planned how I would like to construct my exhibiting space tomorrow so it should be straight forward (fingers crossed!) I will continue to blog after the show and once I have graduated :)

I took some pictures of my show upto now and also photos of my cushions and wallpaper designs, I hope you like.....:) blog soon!
'All American' collection cushions.....

'Take a walk on the wildside' collection cushions.....

paper prints and wallpaper designs........

'Take a walk on the wildside' wallpapers....

All my cushions are now made! They look great and iam very happy with how they have turned out. Iam currently now waiting for my wallpapers to be printed and to have me fabric samples heamed. The show is now well on its way to being put up but it is a long process as there are 21 students and only 2 tutors to help each individual, so I am being patient and getting on with other work whilst I wait....Iam going to take pictures of my cushions to put on my blogg to show the final outcome and hopefully if I have time I will take pictures of my show.. I have to leave myself time to get my blogg  printed and bound as it has to be in by tommorow afternoon and be marked with the rest of my show! No pressure!
Here are some costings for the fabrics I use:

Linen Oyster: Half a meter £8.81 ('Take a walk on the wildside' cushion)

Tudor Cotten Linen: Half a meter £6.00 ('Take a walk on the wildside' cushion)

Cotton Satin: Two and a half meters £16.00 (3x60 by 60 fabrics and two 'All American' cushions)
A proud me printing my 'All American' Designs.....

Hello there!

What a hectic few days I have had. I now have two of my 'Take a Walk on the Wildside' cushions made and ready to go! Iam very happy with how they have turned out, they are fantastic! I still have to wash and prep quiet alot of my fabrics for the show next week including the 4 pieces to make my 'All American Collection' cushions. This will be my priority over the next day or two. It is hard to juggle the work load as now it is nearly dead line im trying to complete my research file and portfolio ready for hand in next week as well as prep my fabrics!

I am also  expected my Buisness cards and Postcards to be delivered any time which again is going to be difficualt beacause iam never home as iam always at Uni...so getting my hands on them may prove difficult as they have to be signed for!

Finally, I am now in the que to have my Aztec wallpapers printed, they should be printed tommorow all being well. I am also printing 2 paper pieces of art work for my 'All American Collection', at least the paper designs do not have to be preped like the fabrics do :) FULL steam ahead! Blogg soon....
As you may have noticed I havent blogged any of my design work for a while, I wanted to keep it under wraps unitl as close to the Degree Design show as possible, which will be some time very soon as the show is open to the publc next thursday and must be up and ready by the tuesday for the presentations on the Wednesday!!
Here is a taste of my Animal/ Aztec Collection- 'Take a Walk on the Wildside'.This is very simple, my designs now have been developed to a professional standard  over the last few weeks.
A sneaky peek at a design I have been working on for my 'All American Collection', since this design I have developed  it alot to make it work as a half drop repeat, keep youre eyes peeled for when I reveal my final designs! :)

Tuesday 7 May 2013

hello!
I have been none stop the past couple of days and printed my fabrics for both of my collections! It is a load off my mind knowing they are printed. I have washed and ironed both my 'Take a walk on the wildside' cushions and started to construct them. I am yet to prep my 'All American' cushions and croquets. The process of washing and ironing the fabrics takes along time as you have to enure all the dye is out of the fabric and the only way to do that is by repeatedly washing the fabric in cold water and then hot water, doing this until the water runs clear. It can take upto an hour to do one piece of fabric.I am yet to print off my wallpaper designs but I should be doing this over the next couple of days!

I have received my portfolio and plastic wallets through the post, I am just waiting for my postcards to be delivered, I cannot wait to see them :)

The show is now only one week away and will open a week on thursday! I am going to be a very busy person for the next week!

....'Kimsa3' has a gorgeous array of fabrics, some of which are Tribal ,  Aztec essence :)

'Seesaw Siya ' produce fabrics, some of which caught my eye as they have an Aztec/ Tribal feel to them...I like the colours used, they are warm and bright....

Spellstone By Alex Morgan produce wallpapers, fabrics and products for kids, I have found some lovely cushions designs which are inspiring and have a bold simple style, similar to mine :)

I have found a fabulous website called Spoonflower which has various designers work featured one of which is Nicolaclare ( Nicola Rowlands). Her work has a certain naive look to it which really inspires me and has hints of my style of design. Her designs are fun and colourful and like me she has animal designs and aztec designs :) here are some examples of her lovely work....

Hello!

What a productive few days I have had! Yesterday I ordered an A3 Portfolio to keep all my designs safe for when I take them to interviews etc, the thought of interviews is very exciting! I also ordered a pack of t A3 wallets to go inside. These should be delivered no later then the 9th of May,giving me time to print and organise my portfolio ready to have at the Design show. Today I finally finalised and sent off my business cards and postcards to Moo. I changed my designs at the last minute so the designs were appropriate to both collections and not just the Aztec theme. It was difficult to combine the two themes in one design so to solve this I have one design with an 'All American' them and the other with 'Take a walk on the wild side' theme! So my order of 50 postcards will be evenly split with 25 of each design. Problem solved :) Iam excited to receive all my goodies through the post over the next week or so! Going back to my fabric designs, I have a few minor tweeks then off to print they go either tomorrow or Friday. All being well they will be printed washed and ironed by Saturday then I can start to make my four cushions :) I will keep you updated.......
Here is me hard at work at Uni designing on Photoshop and Illustrator, I have used both programs to create  my work.....

Tuesday 30 April 2013

Pictured are some fabrics by Libertys London, these three designs caught my eye as they have a native, tribal feel to them which reminds me of my Aztec theme. The  designs are very striking and have certain freedom to them being aswell as being ultra colourful!

Had a hectic few days getting designs ready to go to print! At the moment I have four cushion designs ready, 2 for my 'Take a walk on the wild side' collection and two for my 'All American' collection. I also have 3 fabric samples approved and working on the fourth! My wallpaper length designs are great and I am really happy with them, cannot wait to see them in full length at 50cm by 200cm, they certainly are eye catching! My collection is coming together slowly but surly. I am prioritising my cushion designs at the moment as I have to have time to make the cushions.

Not only have I got to produce a design show I have to produce business cards, postcards and a press pack for the show. I have been working on these designs for a while but as my collection has developed so have  my ideas for my business cards etc.  Up to now I have designed an American theme business card and an aztec theme business card but neither of them have my best final designs in them so my job for tomorrow is to develop these into final designs and send them to Moo, a printing company,  before the end of the day to ensure I get them delivered on time for the 15th May. I also want to finish my creative CV tomorrow, the list of things I  have to do at the moment is endless!

Today I ordered an A3 portfolio to display my  artwork in, this should be delivered by the 9th of May. So  between now and then I have to choose my best work from this semester and any other designs that I want to display inside there and re-size, make a colour palette and state weather the designs are for fashion or interior or both.

Hello

So since last time i blogged there has been lots of developments! Me and my tutor decided that the moses basket and headboard would not be suitable to exhibit at the show, due to space and my stand may look cluttered and I am better sticking with my cushion, wallpaper and fabric croque idea's which is fine and enough for me to get ready for the show which is now only 2 weeks away!! If I have enough time I would also like the upholster the seat of a chair. I have already got the chair and I would paint it  black and have  one of my New york design fabrics on the seat, I think this would be a new and contemporary idea. We shall see what happens!

Yesterday I  visited the print room and had a look at some fabrics that I  would maybe like to use. I am going to use 2 different fabrics, one for my cushions and one for the fabric lengths which at the moment are 60x60cm. For my cushions I would like to use Linen, the nane of the fabric is Linen Rayen Pandora. I know this will look nice because I have seen cushions from previous shows made from this fabric. I will need one and a half metres to complete 4 cushions. For the fabric lengths I am thinking of using Cotton satin, this will hang well. I will need 2 and a half metres of this to complete 3 60x60 croques for each collection.

I have also purchased a Moses basket which i'm  going to cover with a fabric from my  'Take a walk on the wild side' collection. This collection is aimed at young children, the pastel shades I  have used will look great against the wicker of the basket.  I'm going to make a hood for the Moses basket and maybe bedding to match.

I have done some market research into Moses baskets and found some lovely inspiring designs.I especially like Mamas and Papas as they have entire Interior collection for nursery and children, including bedding, curtains and accessories.

Here are some images from a collection that I particularly like form Mama's and Papa's.....This collection is called 'Gingerbread'.

This collection is great because it is uni sex  and suitable for both boy and girls which is something to take into consideration when designing.

love the rustic, textured look to this collection. It is very organic but yet colourful and contemporary.

Bunting is  lovely in a child's room it adds interest and texture. I'm hoping to design some bunting for my Kids collection.

Hi Guy's!

So excited right now.. i have purchased a headboard which i'am going to reupholster with my fabric design! At the moment iam undecided which collection to use to cover the headboard. My contemporary 'All American' theme or my 'Take a walk on the wildside' collection..hmmmmm! i shall keep you informed as to which is decide to use.

I have been doing some market research into headboards and found these designs...

This large pink headboard is very glamorous, i like the coordinating stools  at the end of the bed......

This headboard design reminds of a leaf pattern design that i designed for mt 'Take a walk on the wild side' collection.....

This design reminds me of my Aztec theme. It is uni sex for boy or girl and is very contemporary.

This girly bold bright design is really nice, it is fun and is the focal point of the room.
